Multiple generations of fans partied with The Offspring at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater in San Diego on their “Let the Bad Times Roll Tour!” This tour also included Simple Plan and Sum 41! When you’ve got punk icons, The Offspring, headlining alongside two of the biggest bands of the 2000s, you end up with a sold-out show that felt more like a summer BBQ with friends rather than just a concert!
Simple Plan kicked off their set with “I’d Do Anything” from their 2002 release, No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls. After that, lead singer Pierre Bouvier said they just wanted to party! They brought out a bunch of huge beach balls for the crowd and played a medley of “party hits” such as “All-Star,” “Sk8er Boi,” and “Mr. Brightside.” They even played “What’s New Scooby-Doo!” I recently found out that they’re the ones who actually recorded that song for the actual 2002 cartoon! They closed out their set with hits, “I’m Just A Kid” and “Perfect.”
Sum 41 is ending an era or “breaking up.” They have been together for 27 years and are ready to move on to other endeavors. They are going to release one final album and are going to have a final farewell world tour. This was my first time seeing and I would never think the end was coming! They seemed to be having the time of their lives! Starting off with “Motivation,” “The Hell Song,” and “ Over My Head.” They had a fun 10-song set ending with “Fat Lip” and “Still Waiting”.
The Offspring had the most interactive downtime I’ve ever seen! It was like a sports game! On the big screen, They had Offspring Trivia, a Kiss Cam, and even a Booty Cam! There was a crazy dude in a gorilla suit, having fun interacting with the crowd and giving out merch! I have seen The Offspring many, many times — I absolutely love them and their shows are always fun. They have so many hit singles that fans of all ages know the words The band opened up with “Come Out and Play”, “ All I Want” and “Want You Bad.” The Offspring has so many hits that all ages know their songs and sing them loudly, especially the cuss words.
We love our cuss words!
Every Offspring fan is dying to hear “Bad Habit” every show. They stopped the song right at our favorite part, Noodles said we “had voices of angels and mouths of sailors!” They always make us wait and chat it up a bit. I love the conversations between Dexter and Noodles in between songs. They have been a team for a very long time, an impressive 40 years. Yes, we may have heard some of the jokes before, but it never gets old. The song kicked back in— “Drivers are rude…” After lots of practice, Kaiya got all the words right, and I was the proudest mom. The crowd was so loud and so amazing! About midway through the set, the band rolled out a piano for a ballad version of “Gone Away”. The flashlights came out and illuminated the entire amphitheater. Dexter sat down at the piano and the flashlights came out and illuminated the entire amphitheater. Hearing the entire crowd sing “Gone Away” was absolutely beautiful and always hits my heartstrings. Then, The Offspring switched gears and went straight into “Why Don’t You Get a Job?” The Offspring had a 20-song set including an encore with “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” and, of course, “Self Esteem” as the closer. The “Bad Times” were indeed rolled this night!
