The Devil Wears Prada brought their “The Devil Wears Prada is Eternal” tour to the House of Blues Anaheim on November 27th! They also brought along Greyhaven, Like Moths to Flames, SeeYouSpaceCowboy, and Silent Planet as support. Since this show took place the day before Thanksgiving, it felt like we were just having one big Friendsgiving!
Due to holiday traffic we unfortunately missed the first two bands, so SeeYouSpaceCowboy was our first band of the night. Their intensity and lead singer Connie Sgarbossa’s stage presence immediately intrigued us. There was never a dull second in their set and they were so entertaining to watch. A couple times during their set, they would hold up their guitars like a gun and “shoot” it on snare bombs. They also closed out their set with a wall of death during “Chewing the Scenery.” They just released their latest album, Coup de Grâce, in April of this year.
The atmosphere of a Silent Planet show is very different and unlike anything I’ve felt before. It's very haunting and also spiritual-like. They added such a powerful and almost cinematic layer to the night. They released their latest album, Superbloom, in November of last year and a majority of their set consisted of song off it. They opened with “Offworlder”, then also played “Collider”, “Dreamwalker”, “Antimatter”,”:Signal:”, and “Annunaki” off that album while still diving into fan-favorites like “Panic Room” and an unreleased song, “Mindframe”. They closed out with “Trilogy,” and before they played it, lead singer Garrett Russell explained he wrote while in a mental hospital. Silent Planet also teased that they may be coming back to Anaheim soon. “Two words, Chain Reaction and Decemeber” said Garrett. A couple days after this show, they announced the date of the Chain Reaction show. On December 20th, they will be celebrating 10 years of their debut album, The Night God Slept, by playing it in it’s entirety with support from Phinehas, Avoid, and Earth Groans!
The lights go down, and the classic The Devil Wears Prada triangle was illuminated through fog and darkness. The band originally formed in Dayton, Ohio and produced their first album in 2006. Their set was well-balanced that not only highlighted their latest album “Color Decay“, released in 2022, but also spanned throughout their entire discography over the past 20 years. From early hits like “Danger: Wildman”, “Dez Moines”, and “Born to Lose“, to more recent hits like “Watchtower”. They then closed out their set with an encore consisting of “Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over” and “Hey John, What’s Your Name Again“.
"The Devil Wears Prada is Eternal" tour has since concluded but the band will be back in 2025 with a European tour and making some American festival appearances at Sonic Temple and Welcome to Rockville!
