“No, I’m not okay, I’m not alright,” Stain The Canvas just released their latest album All Fine / eniF llA! Stain The Canvas is a metalcore band from Milan, Italy originally formed in 2019 and though this is their second album, it’s their first under a label (InVogue Records). This album is really personal to the band and made them step out of their comfort zones. Guitarist, Lorenzo Accàttoli, spoke about the album, “All Fine / eniF llA” is a deeply personal journey into an anti-hypocritical point of view and a pessimistic perspective about life in general. It doesn’t want to save you because it can’t, but it wants to show to hopeless ones they’re not alone, and they are comprehended. Whenever something goes unexpectedly wrong, you can listen to this record, take your time and accept your current situation, instead of trying to pursue happiness and hope when you just need a break. You can’t always feel good and that’s fine/enif.”
Stain The Canvas is one of those bands that makes you rethink everything you know about metal core.
In my opinion, their songs are completely unpredictable and in every song there's a point that really throws you off guard. The opening track to the album, 希望とは何ですか? (Translates to “What Is Hope?”) is a slow, almost piano ballad sounding song. It picks up with some drums and strings and it almost sounds like it could be used in a suspenseful part of a movie. It fades away and you think it's over, but then out of nowhere, lead singer, Bryan Marte, delivers some brutal screams that perfectly fade into the next song, HXPE. HXPE has a lot of different elements in it making it really interesting and again, unpredictable. It starts off pretty soft and light, then you get to the chorus and it’s so different and one of those off guard moments. It has this EDM-like bass drop that transitions into a more metalcore breakdown style. It’s definitely one of the sickest things I’ve heard in awhile!
The Band explained, ""Stolen Youth" is a reflection of the time which passes, unavoidably, and the psychological pressure it causes; the incessant feeling of days going by without having reached your goals yet is agonizing. This has been emphasized particularly by the Covid lockdown period which changed all of us, consciously or not. Time has been even more relentless when we used to feel completely powerless and inept facing something that has been stolen from us and that won’t ever come back: two years of life and, for some, youth." The track features Lead Vocalists, Jeremy Tollas of Famous Last Words and Michael Skaggs of Outline In Color.
Puppets features Get Scared’s frontman, Nicholas Matthews.""Puppet" describes the ultimate feeling aroused by a nihilist thought. An idea that starts to settle inside the deepest part of your mind, whispering you don’t like what you used to live for anymore, but you can’t stop doing it since you gave way too much for it; so all you become is a puppet." Says Lorenzo Accàttoli.
My personal favorite song off the album is the song that introduced me to Stain The Canvas earlier this year, Dead Circus. It's just an overall creepy and eerie song that really hooked me on them. Byran’s vocal range in his screams is so gnarly especially the Pig Squeal at the end of the song. This song alone really made me appreciate the talent and technique that goes into these specific types of screams.
All Fine / eniF llA is definitely a confidant for album of the year for me! Go stream it now and tell us your thoughts in the comments down below!
Stain The Canvas will be supporting Attila on their European tour in 2023, tickets are available now!
