Skid Row kicked off The Gang’s All Here Tour with support from Buckcherry and Stretch at House of Blues Anaheim on December 6, 2023. I’ll say it every time, I love this House of Blues. It’s in a perfect spot, with a well-lit parking garage right next to the venue. Vouchers are handed out after the show for a couple of free hours or you can pay for a $3 voucher and that’s it. I’ll have to gate-keep the other trick we figured out. The house was pretty packed with mostly Gen X people who have been fans for over 30 years. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen Skid Row, I mean 1992 was just a few years ago, right? I was so excited to see this show, listening to all three bands for days. Does anyone else do that? Look at the setlist from previous shows, and learn the songs you don’t know, so you don’t have that blank look on your face when they play that one song you don’t know or do you like to be surprised?
Stretch is a band I have not heard of before this lineup. I listened to them for a couple of days before the show and they are funny! Kind of reminds me of Psychostick, Weird Al vibe, zero fucks given, just go have fun. We were cracking up. This was a hometown show for Buckcherry’s lead vocalist Josh Taylor who grew up in Anaheim Hills.
He said, “Don’t stop fucking me Anaheim.”
Not quite sure what that meant, but he was loving on his mic a bit. They released their tenth studio album appropriately named Vol. 10 this year. I think “Let’s Get Wild” was the only song they played off their new album. They played fan favs, starting off with “Lit Up” and “So Hott.” Since it’s almost Christmas, we got to see their newly released song “Tell ‘Em It’s Christmas.” Of course, ending their set with “Crazy Bitch.”
As I said, I love Skid Row, they have so many songs that take us back to our teenage struggles, lost friends, lost love and just being crazy party animals. As a 20-something girl in the 90s, I loved Sebastian Bach with his no shirt, leather pants, and long flowing hair. I had Circus magazine poster pullouts of Skid Row on my wall. I was so bummed when Bach was fired from the band in 1996, but it’s business. The rest of the band moved on with different vocalists. Most recently, Erik Grönwall joined the band in 2022 and they recorded their first studio album in 16 years, The Gang’s All Here. He was the winner of Swedish Idol in 2006. He has an amazing range and a great stage presence interacting with fans. He even took the phones of fans and gave them stage POV video and also down his pants POV. I’m not sure I would’ve wanted my phone back after that, but hey that’s Skid Row.
I loved hearing some of my fav old school Skid Row songs “Slave to the Grind,” “Monkey Business,” “Piece of Me,” and “I Remember You.”
Rachel sang the Ramones cover “Psycho Therapy,” just typing this out, I’m going to have that song in my head the rest of the night. They also played “The Gang’s All Here,” “Time Bomb,” and “Resurrected” off their new album The Gang’s All Here. They closed it out with “Youth Gone Wild” completed with big inflatable balls thrown off stage. The fans loved it!
