Shinedown brought The Revolutions Live Tour to Five Point Amphitheater in Irvine, CA on October 15th! With supporting acts Spiritbox and Papa Roach, Shinedown put on this tour in support of their seventh studio album, Planet Zero, which was released earlier this year.
This was such a bittersweet show because this was my last time ever seeing a show at my favorite venue, Five Point Amphitheater! It was sort of a full circle moment too because Shinedown was the first show I ever saw at Five Point back in 2019 and Shinedown was the last show I’ll see there as well! Live Nation has said that the venue was always intended to be a temporary location until a permanent venue could be developed by the city. It was meant to continue the tradition of outdoor concerts in Irvine in the interim. Live Nation also said they’re looking at options to bring another venue to broader OC, but is also willing to work with the city of Irvine to do so. Five Point Amphitheater will definitely be missed though!
Papa Roach is a band that I’ve been dying to see for about eight years now. Every opportunity I had to see them, I somehow missed them still and I was starting to think maybe I’m just not supposed to see this band or something. This was one of the only times that I was actually stunned seeing a band walk out on stage! Frontman Jacoby Shaddix has bottomless energy that is seriously infectious! During, “...To Be Loved,” he jumped into the crowd and walked around the middle of the venue trying to acknowledge as many fans as he could and even letting them sing as he went by. Later on in the set, he even jumped back into the crowd to hug a disabled fan who made it close to the stage! Jacoby expressed how he is grateful for everything he has due to his fans, and it really shows that he tries to give that same amount of love back to the fans!
They closed out with their hit, which just hit 1 billion streams on Spotify,
“Last Resort!”
Shinedown was formed in 2001 by lead vocalist Brent Smith and the current lineup stands with drummer Barry Kerch, guitarist Zach Myers, and bassist Eric Bass. With over 10 million records sold worldwide, the band has been a staple in the rock scene since its formation. The house lights went down and two large LED screens lit up, showing some clips of the band goofing off on the road or from previous shows. The video ends and the two screens slowly separate as smoke rises and Shinedown comes out from the center of the stage. Their set started off with a literal bang as fireworks exploded from the back of the stage as they went into “Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom).” Shinedown’s setlist included songs throughout their discography, featuring hits like “Second Chance,” “Sound of Madness,” and “45.” To change things up a bit from previous tours, Brent left the stage, and the other guys performed a cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle,” featuring Zach & Eric on vocals and guitars while their techs joined in on guitar, bass, and drums! The band also played a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” stripped down to just vocals and guitar. They closed out their set with “Cut The Cord.”
