Return to Dust headlined the iconic Roxy in Hollywood on November 18th. Many legends have played on that stage at The Roxy in its 51 years of life, David Bowie, Foo Fighters, Van Morrison, The Ramones, Prince, Billy Joel, Bob Marley, and Bruce Springsteen to name a few. We walked into a packed house! We were so happy and excited for the boys in Return to Dust to see that many people in there to see them.
We were invited to check out the band back in August of 2023 for the first time at The Viper Room. Truth be told, when we get invited to see bands, we go for fun, see friends, meet new people, and just hope the band is cool. Then there’s those times where the band starts playing, the chatter stops, and you just soak in that very moment. Return to Dust is one of those bands. They have that something that put them in my Top 10 on Spotify this year. According to my Spotify Wrapped, I listened to 1398 artists and Return to Dust was in my Top 10 and all of their songs are in my Top 100. I’m telling you, once you hear them, you can’t stop listening to them.
So who are they? Return to Dust is Los Angeles based alternative/grunge rock quartet Return to Dust is Matthew Bielawski (rhythm guitar and co-lead vocals), Graham Stanush (bass guitar and co-lead vocals), Sebastian Gonzalez ( lead guitar), London Hudson (drums). During the pandemic of 2020, the band took the opportunity to put their creative energy together and come up with this amazing EP that takes you on a journey to Alice in Chains and Led Zeppelin days. On stage they have a rock, metal, grunge feel with a look that reminds me of Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant. Watching them play in these iconic venues, you know you’ll be looking back in a few years and say I saw them when they played The Roxy in 2024! In between songs, Matty said in 2020 we were writing and playing these songs in a garage and now we are here and you're singing the words with us. We preach all the time about going to see the local bands at smaller venues. Return To Dust is that band that you will say, damn I could have seen them when they played The Viper Room, the Roxy, The Locker Room, or opened festivals Aftershock or Welcome to Rockville. (yes, we were at all of those) There were some big names in the crowd, I’m not going to name them, but just saying….this band is seen.
Follow them on Instagram, they may pop up in a town near you. This is definitely one of those bands you want to see now in a smaller, intimate venue while you can! We are so excited to see them at Danny Wimmer Presents festivals Welcome to Rockville in Daytona, FL and Sonic Temple, Columbus, OH. VTU will be there!
