Rain City Drive just released their latest single “Waiting On You!” Having just undergone a total rebrand in October to reflect their brand of positivity, Rain City Drive welcomes us into their new chapter! This band has gone through a lot of trials and tribulations, rebuilding from the ground up and always coming back stronger than before! With this release, they’ve also announced their upcoming, self-titled album dropping on July 15th!
Lead Singer, Matt McAndrew, said “Musically, “Waiting on You” sounded like the album opener to us, so I wanted to write the lyrics in a way that would fill the listener in on what happened since we released the last record."
"Waiting on You" is part inspired by the pandemic.
Being stuck inside and waiting for life and inspiration to start back up again. All the fear and anxiety and sort of accepting the fact that interactions were becoming more and more virtual. I think it’s ironic because I found Rain City (at the time Slaves) during the pandemic and they were the band that really struck up my love for music again. Music just didn’t interest me any more and it was all starting to sound the same. I heard “I’d Rather See Your Star Explode” and “Prayers” and I don’t know what it was but it just hit me differently and stuck with me. Wanting to know more (cause I had nothing but time) I did some research and their story was just amazing to me making me love them even more! It made me a ‘super fan’ of theirs. It made me think that there's even more bands out there with even more stories and it just sort of fueled my passion for music and research again! I spent a lot of the rest of the pandemic researching more bands and finding new music! It made me actually excited for the return of concerts! Not to be dramatic, but Rain City Drive really changed the way I listened to music.
“Waiting on You” is such a relatable song because we’ve all been through the same thing on different levels. We all had to go through a global pandemic and even though we were apart, we were together. Whether you felt the anxieties of when this was going to end or the depression of isolation, we’ve all been there. Though the song is mostly about the pandemic, I feel there's an underlying message in there. Music is up to the listeners interpretation so I’ll leave that one for you to figure out.
