Palaye Royale brought their “Death or Glory Tour" to an end at the House of Blues in Anaheim, which also marked their last performance in America for the year. Bringing the electric energy, emotions, vulnerability, and everything in between to celebrate the release of their 5th studio album, “Death or Glory”, released in August of this year. The tour also featured I See Stars, Weathers, and Diamante.
Diamante kicked off the night! She came out in a stunning sparkly outfit and gorgeous 80s hair. She opened and ended her set with her two new singles "1987" and "All the Glory”. She also performed her cover of “Love is a Battlefield” which is off the American Psycho Comic Series Soundtrack. Weathers took the stage next! Lead singer Cameron Boyer said his voice was out even though he still sounded great! He had the crowd help out but he said this might be the quietest SOLD OUT show ever! “Anaheim, are you ok?” They played their hit "Happy Pills" which blended it into a cover of "Pink Pony Club" by Chappell Roan. They closed out their set with “C’est la vie”
I See Stars is another one of those bands that have been on my band bucket list for years. I’ve had a few chances to see them, but every time I’ve somehow missed them. I finally got to see them this night though! Only one song into their set, a fight broke out in front. Lead singer Devin Oliver said, “Hey you want to punch someone, go somewhere else! This is a safe space.” Their setlist included a half and half “SPLIT” of older and newer songs. Devin also gave us a little fun fact that “Everyone has been in this band since I was 11 years old”. Twenty-plus years later, they’re still going strong! Back in 2016, I See Stars gave Palaye Royale a chance and brought them out on their first tour. Now flash forward to now, I think it’s so cool that Palaye brought out I See Stars to be a part of this huge tour for them.
Before Palaye Royale walked out, the lights went down and a LED platform with the words “Death or Glory”, lit up. Since Halloween was only a couple of days after the show and this was the last day of the tour, frontman Remington Leith came out in Skeleton makeup. Opening with “Nightmares” and during that first song Remington was already in the crowd. Palaye Royale is made up of brothers Remington Leith, Sebastian Danzig, and Emerson Barrett. The past year has been extremely difficult for them. From their mom’s diagnosis and battle with stage 4 cancer to losing her battle earlier this year, the guys have experienced a great amount of heartbreak, which Remington spoke about during his introduction to their next song. He dedicated “Fever Dream” to their mom, Stephanie Rachel.
In another emotional turn in their show, they dedicated “Dying in a Hot Tub” to Emerson, who has taken a temporary mental health hiatus. Remington gave a reminder to anyone struggling to reach out for support. Remmington talk about his love and support for the fans throughout the show, but shouted at one point and said, “If it wasn’t for the fans, I would be your local 7/11 crackhead”
During their last song, “Mr. Doctor Man”, the show took an unhinged turn. During the slowed-down part of the song, they played a snippet of “People Are Strange” by The Doors. Remington then jumped into the crowd and into a pit. Then all of a sudden Remmington ran off stage, then a few moments later reappeared on the balcony. He ran around the balcony for a second, before climbing over the railing and dangling from it. He called as many people from the crowd over to catch him when he dropped. He jumped and got crowded surfed back to the stage. The show was full of so much chaos and emotions, making for an unforgettable night.
