Megadeth brought their 'Destroy All Enemies' tour, which also features Mudvayne and All That Remains as support, to a sold out YouTube Theater in Los Angeles on August 9th! Due to the popularity, Megadeth added a second Los Angeles show and will be coming back again on August 15th!
Kicking off the night was Massachusetts’ All That Remains with an energetic set that featured a number of hits from throughout their lengthy career including a couple new ones. Founded more than 25 years ago, the band has released nine studio albums, the last being 2018's Victims Of The New Disease. Due to lead guitarist, Oli Herbert, passing away, they took a hiatus, but they are back now! They released their first single in six years on May 3rd, “Divine”, and follow-up single “Let You Go”, on June 1st. They closed out their set with fan-favorite “Two Weeks”.
This was our third time seeing Mudvayne, and each time I swear we see a different band.
They are constantly changing up their look which I love! Lead singer Chad Grey cut off his dreads since the last time we saw them in August 2023. I don’t know what Chad has been doing, but he’s got Gunz! He’s lost some weight and looks like he did back in his Hell Yeah days. One of my favorite things about Mudvayne shows is Chad’s talks in between songs. It's like going from a heavy metal show, to a motivational speaker show and we're so for it. Chad expressed multiple times, “Heavy metal saved my fucking life” and I think most of us feel this way when we are in a room together, we are one big metal family.
Megadeth has gone through quite a few line up changes over the years. In 2021, original member Dave Ellefson was replaced by former member James LoMenzo (2006-2010 and 2021- present) and Kiko Loureiro decided to step away from touring in September 2023 to spend time with his family. He has been replaced by Teemu Måntysaari, who actually looks a lot like Kiko. Dirk Verbeuren has been in the band since 2016 and is one of my favorite drummers to see live. He is the energy of the band and has great drumming faces.
Standing in the photo pit waiting for Megadeth to take the stage, I saw the setlist on the stage, so I took a photo, but for some reason didn’t look at it. A fan asked if he could see it. He lost his shit for about two minutes straight when he saw “Liar", a song off So Far, So Good, So What, that has not been played live since 2006. The set list is a little different each night, which I love for an element of surprise. I’m an old school fan, so if I had a dream setlist, it would have “Wake Up Dead”, “In My Darkest Hour”, and “The Conjuring” on it. I did cheat and looked at Setlist.fm before the show to see if I might get to hear one of them. They have all been on the list this tour, but at different shows, so which one will we get? I got my dream set with ALL the songs I wanted to hear AND of course “Peace Sells”. Even though the line up has changed many times, Dave Mustaine is a legend! He is a cancer survivor and has had spinal surgery, but he’s still headbanging and puts on a great show.
The 'Destroy All Enemies' tour is just kicking off and continues through to the end of September! Make sure to get your tickets and not miss out on this killer show!
