Ice Nine Kills Slashes Through Riverside

Ice Nine Kills brought their "Fear the Premier" headlining tour with support from Set It Off, The Plot In You, and Mike’s Dead to the historic Riverside Municipal Auditorium on August 29th. I love this venue! The neighborhood is great, I feel safe walking to my car and there’s free street parking after 6pm. During summer it does get pretty hot inside with no AC, but still a great spot for a concert with open floor and open seating. The staff is chill and there’s lots of security to catch bodies coming over the rail. Unfortunately, I missed Mike’s Dead due to the traffic. For Riverside traffic, plan to leave early and then leave two hours earlier than that. The Plot In You had an eight song setlist. I fortunately got in just in time to catch the last few songs, “The One You Loved,” “Left Behind," and “Feel Nothing."

Set It Off opened with “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing.” For “Killer in the Mirror,” lead singer Cody Carson told the crowd to take four steps forward, I wasn’t sure why. It was already packed and so hot, but mid way through the song he went out to the crowd and they held him up like a cheer stance. Drummer Maxx Danziger was hamming it up! They were a lot of fun and very interactive with the fans. They closed out their set with “Hypnotized”.

I saw Ice Nine Kills six times last year. I confess that I’m not even that into horror movies! I watch them but not like some of these “Psychos.” I still absolutely love this band and I will go see them every time they are remotely near us (or not even close). There have been a few changes to the band since last year. Doc Coyle from Bad Wolves and Miles Dimitri Baker have joined as touring members while their guitarist, Dan Sugarman, is still recovering. They’re great, but not going to lie, I miss seeing Chris Kelly, he was really coming into his role with the band! Also Shevy, who was their MUA and played many on stage roles that past couple years wasn’t there! This time Sarah Mudle was taking care of those roles

While we’re waiting for setup, the curtain is closed and there's horror music playing.

They give you plenty of time to make sure you Text 619-304-ICE9 to get clearance to access the evidence room. Ice Nine Kills kicked off their set “Hip To Be Scared” (American Psycho), “Rainy Day” (Resident Evil), and “Ex-Mortis” (Evil Dead). This tour brought back some old songs that weren’t played last year at any of the 13 times Kaiya saw them.

Headlining Ice Nine Kills brought on a huge confetti storm in the middle of “IT is the End” (IT) We got “Rockin’ the Boat” (Jaws) with an inflatable shark and the “Fuck that Shark” chant was hilarious! This Riverside crowd was LOUD! “A Rash Decision”, "Your Number’s Up”, and “Jason’s Mom” that I’ve never heard live. I had gone upstairs for a different view and there were a few staff members that had no idea about Ice Nine Kills, since I was singing they asked me questions about what they were witnessing. I love seeing the intrigue on people’s faces, I know they got in their car after the show and found INK on Spotify. They ended with Welcome to Horrowood and sprayed the crowd with more confetti and popcorn for the finale. Kaiya was out of town for this show, I know it pained her to not be there, since this is one of her favorite bands and the reason why I started following them. I tried my best not to rub it in, but out of the eight times I’ve seen them, this show had the loudest Psychos and the most fun.

INK has had a lot going on this summer and continues with a few more dates on tour with Metallica and their 2nd annual Silver Scream Con is next weekend! I don’t think I will ever get enough Ice Nine Kills, so go see them!
