Escape the Fate Strikes in Pomona

Writer: Heather VandemarkHeather Vandemark

Escape the Fate played The Glass House in the Arts District of Pomona fittingly enough on National Emo Day! They had support from Cascade Effect and Tornadic which brough a very unique, three generation line up!

Right before we walked in, we heard Tornadic had a recent change to their line up.  We were definitely intrigued! Dylan Castiglione is now the front man leaving his guitar duties to JT Sawyer and Andres Vaca (also clean vocals), Enzo Schifferle is on bass guitar and River Spijkers on drums. All members of Tornadic are just 18 and 19 years old. They graduated high school in the Class of 2024 and just completed their first semester of college!  We first saw them a couple of years ago when they were just 16, opening up for Damage, Inc and we were pretty blown away by their talent and stage presence being so young. This was a fun show being so close to the holidays and also Dylan’s 19th birthday. Yes, of course we sang “Happy Birthday”. They also sang the best version of “All I Want For Christmas” thrash style. I guess I had a proud mom look, because I was asked if I was a Tornadic mom. I am not, but I feel like a proud mom watching them grow up. Their mom’s are at the merch table and you can find dad/manager Thomas Castiglione in the pit inciting a Wall of Death. I’m excited for this new change and where they go. They have a lot of things in the works and are working on an album!

Cascade Effect kicked off 2024 with the release of their first single “Dirge” and played their first live shows in San Diego. Just a few months later they won every Battle of the Bands to earn their spot to play at the Wacken Festival in Germany! Cascade Effect is Dustin Keimig (Vocals), Seth Roscamp ( Drummer), and Shaun Frude, all ex-members of San Diego metal band, Aghori. Joined by Bobby Fernandez (bassist, ex-member of San Diego metal band, Symbolic) and Alec Peterson (guitar, also a member of Door 13). I’ve seen all the members in their previous bands and together they create quite a dynamic that brings out the best in all of them. They have put in a lot of work and keeps getting better each time we see them.

What better day for Escape the Fate to play other than National Emo Day? guitarist TJ Bell was in sweatpants. I didn’t really notice, but he kept drawing attention to it, pulling on them like “look what I’m wearing”. He told us the story of the airline losing his luggage, so he was stuck with what he had… sweatpants. We saw one of Matti Hoffman’s first shows with Escape the Fate back in 2021 at Blue Ridge Rock Festival. It’s been amazing watching him really become part of the band over the years and watching his “confidence” grow as well. They played a diverse set of new stuff including “H8 Myself” and fan favorites such as “Ashley”,  “Gorgeous Nightmare,” “This War is Ours”, and “One For The Money”.
