Raising Hell with Attila in Santa Ana

Writer: Kaiya VandemarkKaiya Vandemark

Attila brought their “About That Life 10-year Anniversary Tour” to the Observatory OC on October 9th! About That Life was a groundbreaking album for Attila, which just turned 10 years old this year! To commemorate this milestone, they have set out on a massive world tour from June to October by hitting 56 cities across 13 countries. On this tour, the band has been playing About That Life in its entirety for the first time ever, as well as playing several other fan-favorite hits from across Attila's discography! Also included on this tour are Until I Wake, TEN56, and Gideon!

Opening up the night was Until I Wake! Formed in 2019, they are a 4-piece hard rock band from Buffalo, NY. Since their debut on January 25th, 2020, they have landed multiple tracks on Spotify’s Editorial Playlist and have broken over 25 million streams! The played hits “Cold,” “Octane,” and “Fool’s Paradise,” before closing out with “Still Sinking.”

Up next, coming all the way from Paris, France, was TEN56!

This is actually the band’s first-time touring in the US! We were lucky enough to see their actual U.S debut too in Greensboro, NC when Attila put on a pop-up show after Blue Ridge Rock Festival canceled. I didn’t know much about the band before that show, but I instantly became a huge fan of theirs! They have immaculate stage presence and energy which makes them a “can’t take your eyes off them” type of band. Drummer, Arnaud Verrier gets up and walks around throughout their set which is unlike anything I’ve ever seen a drummer do before. During their last song, “Kimo,” Arnaud and bassist, Luka Rozaka trade places and it’s all around just chaotic energy to close out their set.

Third to take the stage was Gideon who is a metalcore powerhouse from Tuscaloosa, Alabama who’s out creating their own distinct sound. They opened with the “Locked out of Heaven,” which is from their latest record, MORE POWER. MORE PAIN., released earlier this year. The crowd’s energy was high as they played songs such as "Cursed," "Take Off," "No Love/No One," before closing out with, "BITE DOWN."

Finally, it was time for Attila! Originating from Atlanta, Georgia, the band is known for their high-energy performances and unapologetic style. With a sound that combines elements of Metalcore and Hardcore, they describe themselves as “Party Death Metal.” A few songs into their set, lead singer Chris “Fronz” Fronzak said that “anything goes at an Attila show.” As he explained, there are no rules at their shows and he wanted everyone to be on their worst behavior. Encouraged crowd surfing, stage diving, and even flashing, the whole show just felt like one big house party.

At the end of the set, Attila invited a fan up on stage to sing “About That Life!”

The guy they brought up, Joe Garza, sounded like he was actually part of the band or has been at least practicing with them on the side. He was amazing and just fit so well on that stage! Attila is very interactive with the fans throughout their whole set! At the very end of the set Fronz came out and acknowledge as many people as he could, whether that was giving out high fives, fist bumps, or reading out signs people had. My senior quote and legacy is “Pineapple belongs on pizza,” and so of course I held up a photo of it and got flipped off by Fronz. Which I guess is the only proper way to end the night!

There’s still a few more dates left on the “About That Life 10-year Anniversary Tour” before Atilla plays their big homecoming show in Atlanta, GA to close out this massive tour on October 20th!
