The new era of Atreyu is here! The Hope Of A Spark, a four-song EP, brings together everything that has made the band who they are today over their 25 year career. This release steps into creative territory they’ve yet to explore while diving into some heavy hitting subjects with the hope of coming out the other side stronger than before. “This is without a doubt the most exciting/creative/artistic/musical endeavor of mine and our entire lives” says Bassist Porter Mcknight.
Even though this new release is short, each song says exactly what it needs to say, lyrically and musically, and then powerfully moves straight into the next one.
Atreyu stated on their instagram post. “The Hope of a Spark represents the feeling of wanting more out of life and the hope of it coming to fruition. We all have things in life that mean everything to us, and we want to succeed in achieving them. This EP represents all of the elements that collectively help fuel that spark and the efforts that bring it to life.” The Hope of a Spark embodies everything that the band has come to be, to mean, to represent, and marks the beginning of the next chapter in the band’s story. It reflects on modern life’s pressures, pleasures, and pains, with each song representing a moment of deeply personal, lived, and shared experiences.
The EP opener, “Drowning,” is about the feeling of being trapped in your own head and feeling helpless. It expresses the feeling of being isolated and just needing to scream to get the frustration out. The lyrics cover subjects like anxiety and depression and with today’s world of being more open about mental health, “Drowning” is incredibly relatable. This song was written by each band member putting their darkest moments into one song. “Watching the walls in my head growing higher // Weight of my thoughts got me too tired to climb // I'm screaming for help as I suffer in silence // Knife at my neck, yeah I'm numb to the violence.”
Atreyu’s latest single, “Watch Me Burn,” is the EP’s rise above the ashes from life’s trial-by-fire anthem. “To me, it’s a song about being cleansed by fire,” says Porter McKnight. “Whatever it is that’s bringing you down and holding you back, burn it down. Use it, learn from it, move on, and grow. That thing does not deserve you and you don’t deserve it.”
The EP is only four tracks long, however the impact of their story and expression makes it as powerful as a full-length album.
Atreyu will be heading out on their “Hope of a Spark” headlining tour later this month with special guests, Point North, Within Destruction, and LYLVC. The tour kicks off in Sacramento, CA on April 27th, with a one-off date supporting Kayzo on May 6 in Los Angeles, before closing out in Denver, CO on May 21st. Later in the year, Atreyu will also be making a couple festival appearances at Rocklahoma and Blue Ridge Rock Festival!
